How big to go is the first thing you need to know. Mattresses come in many sizes:

• A twin mattress is 75 inches long by 39 inches wide and great for children and teens.
• An XL twin mattress is 80 inches by 39 inches, which offers a longer length for taller youth.
• A full size mattress is 75 inches by 54 inches and works for young adults and smaller guest rooms.
• A queen mattress is 80 inches by 60 inches and is perfect for couples or single sleepers wanting a little extra room.
• a king-size mattress is 80 inches by 76 inches, which gives couples room to sleep comfortably.
• A California-king-size mattress is a bit wider at 84 inches by 72 inches, there's plenty of room for couples (and pets!).

Comfort is entirely subjective, so there’s no one-size-fits all answer.

• Sagging or uneven surface: If your mattress has developed noticeable indentations or sags, especially in the areas where you regularly sleep, it can lead to discomfort and poor sleep quality.

• Allergies or asthma symptoms: Over time, mattresses can accumulate allergens. If you notice an increase in allergy or asthma symptoms, or if your mattress has a strange odor, it might be time to replace your mattress.
• Changes in lifestyle or body needs: If you’ve had significant changes in your lifestyle, health or body weight, your mattress needs may have changed, too.
• Partner disturbance: If you share your bed with a partner and you're frequently disturbed by their movements during the night, it could be a sign that your mattress is no longer providing adequate motion isolation.

Generally, all foam, latex and any other non-innerspring mattresses will work well with adjustable bases. If you have an innerspring mattress with individually pocketed coils, it could be compatible as well.
