Looking for a firmer sofa? Consider the Burke Manual

I wanted a firmer seat because I don't like sinking into a sofa, and it is necessary now that we have elderly parents who struggle to stand up after sitting. But the Burke is also comfortable! This is the first sofa we owned with recliners on the ends, and they are great. The back doesn't extend ...very far past it's original position when fully reclined - so we can put it up close to a wall with no problem. The reclining position is comfortable enough to fall asleep in. The wide, flat armrests are very firm and you can easily balance a plate of food or a drink on them, but because of this, they aren't very comfortable as a headrest when laying down. If that is important, look for a padded arm rest elsewhere. We've owned our sofa for 6 months and it is holding up very well. The manual reclining action works great, but know that you do have to press on the foot rest to get it to snap back into place. I don't consider this an issue, we got used to that very quickly. This was a very good purchase, especially for the price.
