A few highlights—or as we call them, great moments—of what we're doing to support our customers and our community...and make a positive, lasting impact along the way. Oh, and we added our favorite can't–miss newsworthy stories.
Creating a place to call home can be life-changing-which is why we've been helping customers furnish their homes for nearly 75 years. From movie-night sectionals to host-worthy dining, we love being part of every life moment. But home is more than a place where you create great memories. It's also a place to establish strength and stability-which is why we partnered with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit housing organization.
Habitat empowers families in need of stable, affordable housing by helping them build or improve their own homes. And with the independence that comes from a safe home, families can plan for their future-strengthening households and communities.

Our family-owned business stands for more than just products. From the beginning, we’ve recognized the importance of creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment. But now, showing solidarity and support to the under-represented workforce is more important than ever.
“We believe that growing as an organization provides an opportunity to serve others. And, to us, that means serving everyone,” says Jonathan Schottenstein, president of Designer Looks Furniture, Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture.
As our organization continues to evolve, our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council is just one part of our value system—and a very big one. The council's goal? To sustain an organization that values and promotes diversity of thought, culture and background—at all levels. So when we say everyone, we mean everyone.
From recruitment to learning and development to consultation, we’re dedicated to maintaining a supportive culture. Our commitment means building relationships and partnerships that set our people up for success. Because there’s always a chance to do more and do better. And our DEI Council is making sure we’re hitting the mark.
Check back regularly for the latest news and updates on our DEI Council.
We believe in showing up to support causes that impact our families, friends and communities. That’s why, for the past five years, we’ve proudly supported Pelotonia—and this year is no different.
Pelotonia’s annual bike ride engages a community determined to put an end to cancer. Every dollar raised goes toward cancer research. And, year after year, our associates participate by volunteering, giving and riding. Best Part? Our team has raised almost $130,000 to date. Together we're striving for a cancer-free world, one ride at a time.Learn more about Pelotonia
Taking care of others is routine for caregivers. And taking care of the caregivers themselves is just as important—which is exactly what Mercy Health hospitals are doing. They created a series of “Lavender Rooms,” rooms designed to help hospital associates decompress from the everyday stress of their job. American Signature Furniture stepped in with the finishing touch—donating eight recliners to help furnish the spaces.
“When a situation that impacts the hospital staff occurs, associates can use the space to disconnect, recollect and reflect,” says Stacie Call, chief nursing officer at Mercy Health - Youngstown.
Besides soft music, dim lighting and aromatherapy—the dedicated rooms offer frontline caregivers support resources and counseling services…and a few moments of much-needed me time during their hectic schedule.Read More
When Christine Nelson-Berg, a mom in Chicago, recognized how lonely and isolated her eighth-grade son, Corvin, was during lockdown, she posted to Facebook to express her concern. Virtual school and limited social interaction, Corvin—who has Down syndrome—just needed a friend.
The comments on her social media post proved to be a game-changer, connecting Corvin to cooking, art and fitness classes. And it gets better. The Facebook post led the family to a nationwide casting call…landing Corvin a spot in a Value City Furniture commercial.
“I’m a celebrity!” Corvin said.
While the pandemic was a lonely time for so many, we’re grateful to have been able to help add some joy to at least one household.
Make-A-Wish® Michigan and Designer Looks at Value City Furniture have teamed up to grant a child’s wish for an online shopping adventure. Thirteen-year-old Julius has cystic fibrosis and—due to his medical condition—he’s had to take extra precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Julius picked out a variety of fun items to buy through his wish, including a new mattress, bedding, clothing, Nike shoes and a gift card for a Playstation 5. Designer Looks at Value City Furniture donated a Toronto Queen Storage Bed topped with a Dream Ease Mattress.
“Julius and his family are a true inspiration and, when we heard of his wish, we knew we wanted to help make it happen,” said Jonathan Schottenstein, president of American Signature Furniture and Value City Furniture. “We are incredibly honored to donate these pieces to help Julius create the bedroom of his dreams and give him a much-needed comfortable space to help improve his sleep quality.”Read More
